3DMark03 3.6.0 is computer benchmarking tool used to determine the performance of a computer’s 3D graphic rendering and CPU workload processing capabilities. It is intended to give a normalized mean for comparing different PC hardware configurations using its measurement unit 3DMark. It was created and developed by Futuremark Corporation (formerly MadOnion, formerly Futuremark).

Overview of 3DMark03 3.6.0:
3DMark 2003 build 3.6.0 measures Dx9 performance through a series of 3D game based sound, graphics, and CPU tests. Resolution was set to 1024×768 with all default settings. It is different in many ways in comparison to its predecessor despite re-using some of the same content. The complexity of the updated graphics tests is raised to new heights by adding more lights, more shadows, more complex geometry etc. New changes were made since the graphics tests are optimized for pure graphics performance measurement. In light of this, it takes into account the CPU result based on the CPU tests when calculating the final 3DMark score. The logic behind this change in philosophy of the 3DMark score is the fact that games are increasingly using more advanced AI and complex physics making the CPU an important part of the gaming performance, and since 3DMark is the Gamers’ Benchmark, it is logical to follow the same path as games. All these changes make 3DMark06 very different from its predecessor 3DMark05, though they might look alike.
3DMark03 is the fourth generation 3DMark. It is the first version that supports Microsoft DirectX 9.0 and introduces several new features. The graphics tests cover a range of rendering techniques and DirectX 9 features, expanding on a similar system used in 3DMark2001. 3DMark03 does not use a 3rd party engine for any of the tests; light DirectX wrappers are used instead. As a complete package, 3DMark03 consists of:

Graphic Tests of 3DMark03:
There are 4 graphics tests including:
• GT1: Wings of Fury – SM1.1 vertex shaders are used alongside fixed function pixel processing.
• GT2: Battle of Proxycon – SM1.1 vertex shaders / SM1.4 or 1.1 pixel shaders / stencil shadows
• GT3: Trolls’ Lair – SM1.1 vertex shaders / SM1.4 or 1.1 pixel shaders / stencil shadows
• GT4: Mother Nature – SM1.x and SM2.0 vertex and pixel shaders

Feature Tests of 3DMark03
Thre are 4 Feature tests:
• Single and multi-texturing fill rate – fixed function rendering
• Vertex shader – SM1.1 vertex and pixel shaders
• Pixel shader 2.0 – procedural texturing
• Ragtroll – ragdoll physics and SM1.1 rendering

CPU and Sound Tests:
• 2 CPU tests – low resolution versions of GT1 and GT3, using software vertex shaders to provide the CPU load
• Sound tests – a sequence of graphics tests that uses 0, 24 and 60 sound sources
