GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program, previously General Image Manipulation Program) is actually a free software, raster graphics editor used to process digital graphics and photographs. There are so many uses of GIMP but here we will talk about its typical uses. The typical uses of GIMP include creating graphics and logos, resizing and cropping photos, altering colors, combining multiple images, removing unwanted image components, and converting between different image formats. Beside all these uses, GIMP is widely used as a tool for photo enhancement. Another use of GIMP is that it can also be used to create basic animated images in GIF format. Most people don’t know that it is often used as a replacement for Adobe Photoshop, the most widely used bitmap editor in the printing and graphics industries; however, it is not designed to be a Photoshop clone.

The tools of the GIMP’s manipulation can be accessed via the toolbox, menu paths, and dialog boxes (which can be grouped in docks). In GIMP the filters and brushes are included as well as transformation, selection, layer and masking tools.

Now we will talk about the features of GIMP so that you can get to know more about GIMP. Also don’t forget to check out the information about GIMP and color support. The most important thing is that GIMP supports gradients which integrate into its other tools (such as brushes and fills) in order to shade image areas with automated color blending. It also includes a variety of built-in gradients. As with the brushes, it also allows the user to customize and create their own gradient fills.

It is now maintained by a group of volunteers under the auspices of the GNOME Project.  The operating systems that the current version of GIMP supports include Unix variants, Mac OS X among them, as well as Microsoft Windows. GIMP is free software and it was actually released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
